The Hispanic Society of America in New York City--the wonder of Sorolla's murals

Last month, I stood in awe at the wonder of Joaquin Sorolla's murals at the Hispanic Society of America in New York, painted around the turn of the 20th century to document the villages and people of Spain.

  

 

These were upstairs...some additional work by Sorolla!

Later, we were given access to the resource room.  Reading more about Sorolla, surrounded by portraits he painted, was deeply fulfilling.

Having seen this work in books, I was familiar with it but wholy unprepared for the genius of it.  Joaquin Sorolla!  A master!

I feel inspired (again) by your words and work!! I've been studying Stephen Quiller's color theory but not painting very much. Now I feel ready to take brush in hand and have another go at it.
